“All I do is brows…” 😒
That’s how I used to feel about myself when people asked me what I did for work.
I used to compare myself to women who had finished a Bachelor's degree, or were earning more than $40k a year, or tackled big, darker societal problems.
Let's cut that crap, shall we?
In reality, what I do is far greater than a dollar amount, a piece of paper or helping a particular demographic. And I bet you do too. If you don't believe me, I implore you to stick with me.
What is that I really do?
I connect with beautiful women.
I gift others some time to themselves, dedicated to their self care.
I help others relax (or have a chat if they like to yarn).
And there’s a total possibility that I get to make people walk a little taller, feel good about themselves and spread that to everyone they come across.
And that--connection, self care, alone time, relaxation, confidence--is all genuinely priceless.
You could be an unqualified carpenter: you help provide security and safety through shelter, THE most important need of humans.
You could be a marketing agent: you help keep the business afloat, bringing in potential profits which provide food, shelter, clothes, and holidays for yourself and everyone else in that business.
You could be a yoga teacher: you help people connect to their bodies and souls, to quiet the mind, to challenge themselves, and in turn (and unbeknownst to some of your clients) giving them the tools to heal from past trauma.
You could be an admin assistant: you connect with people on a daily basis with the opportunity to make someone's day a little brighter through connection, or to make someone else's day a little easier by directing a client where they need to go.
You could be a customer, in a grocery store, asking the check-out attendant about their day. You could be the only person to have cared enough to ask and desire a genuine response, and to continue to chat with them. Trust me, the smallest actions can make the biggest impact.
And just because we don't get to see or hear or feel the impact we make on others, does that mean it's not there?
NO!
You believe the sun is still in the sky, yet you don't need to see it, or see sunlight, to believe it exists. The same goes with your impact and your purpose.
Never doubt your impact because of your job title or others’ comments or your own self doubt.
Choose to see the beauty in what you do and who you get to be.
